FAQs for Registrant Code Applicants
Q. What do I get?
You will be allocated an ISRC Registrant Code, which allows Recording Owners
and ISRC Managers to allocate up to 100,000 ISRCs per year. This will stay with
you for life, and the ISRCs you assign will work in any territory of
distribution.
Q. What is aRegistrant?
A Registrant is the owner of a Registrant Code. This should normally be the
name of the recording owner and can be a label, band, individual artist or
company.
Q. Can I obtain ISRCselsewhere?
ISRC Managers that have been approved by the US ISRC Agency can provide
individual ISRCs for artists or labels who do not wish to manage their own ISRC
assignment. ISRCs are issued as a part of the recording owners' business
arrangement with an ISRC Manager and are provided on a song-by-song basis. A
list of ISRC Managers through which you can obtain ISRCs is comming soon.
If you have any questions about the legitimacy of an entity that is providing
ISRCs, you may contact us at isrc@riaa.com to
determine whether they have been approved.
Q. How long will this take? I have never heard of ISRCs and I need them
immediately.
We process registration requests once per working day. Once approved, you will
be emailed a log-in and password that will provide you immediate access to your
Registrant Code and the information you need to begin assigning ISRCs.
Q. Why don't you ask for any track information?
We don't need it. You will register with us as a recording owner (artist or
band) or organization (label or company). ISRC assignment is administered by
you once you are registered, using the Registrant Code that we allocate for
you.
Q. Can I apply for anISRC Registrant Code if I'm not a member of the RIAA?
Yes. RIAA membership is separate from the ISRC program. Information on RIAA
membership can be found
here.
